Holden, Mass.—Alden Research Laboratory, Inc. (Alden) is pleased to announce that Dan Parker has joined the company as Hydropower Practice Lead. Dan brings with him nearly 35 years of hydropower experience ranging from environmental compliance to regulatory and licensing requirements, operations, and business development. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Asset Management for Eagle Creek Renewable Energy where he worked to identify and acquire over 25 hydropower assets for the company, representing a total of 533 MW in virtually all US power markets.

Dan is no stranger to Alden; he worked with Alden on numerous occasions as a hydropower client himself. In his new role as an Alden employee, Dan will be focusing on managing and expanding Alden’s hydropower business, helping clients take advantage of the full range of services Alden offers.

Dan says he welcomes the new perspective that this position will give him.

He explains, “I am happy that I can continue to share my first-hand knowledge with project owners and engineers. However, what I’m most excited about is being able to help clients with all aspects of their operations, licensing, relicensing or mitigation needs. Alden’s renowned ability to offer expertise in all of these areas—including engineering design, numeric modeling, and physical modeling—can truly help hydropower clients optimize their use of water.”

What I’m most excited about is being able to help clients with all aspects of their hydropower operations, licensing, relicensing or mitigation needs.

When discussing his hydropower experience, Dan adds, “When I first began working with Alden as a hydropower client, I always thought of them as the ‘fish people.’ I quickly learned, however, that they can do so much more and do it extremely well. I’m eager to share that with the people I know and to be part of such well-respected team.”

Alden has specialized expertise in upstream and downstream fish passage issues at hydroelectric facilities and extensive experience with FERC licensing and compliance, including development of preliminary application documents, license and capacity amendment applications, study plans, and exhibit drawings. Alden scientists and engineers also have an extensive track record of successful agency consultations that have resulted in the best outcomes for clients with respect to science and fact-based mitigation that minimizes impacts to project operation and economics.

Likewise, Greg Allen, Director of Environmental Services at Alden thinks Dan is a great addition to the team. He says, “Not only does Dan know a lot of people in the industry, he also understands the needs of hydropower clients. We are confident he will be able to use his wealth of knowledge to lead our business development efforts across the breadth of services we offer.”

Alden offers expert services for operations, licensing, relicensing, and mitigation for hydropower clients throughout the North America. Project owners and developers rely on Alden for feasibility studies, detailed engineering design, construction oversight, economic analyses, energy optimization, hydraulic evaluations, due diligence evaluations, modeling, field measurements, environmental studies, and a variety of other services related to the operation and relicensing of hydropower facilities.
