With audited and accepted quality assurance programs in place, we perform safety-related testing and analysis for clients and all manners of process and flow conditions. Our work meets Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 21 (10 CFR 21) and Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 50, Appendix B (10 CFR 50, Appendix B).
Strainer Testing
Alden has a particularly long and in-depth history with the qualification of nuclear power plant emergency core cooling sump (ECCS) strainers which ensure long term cooling for the plant after a loss of coolant accident (LOCA). Alden has tested CCI, PCI, Enercon, and GE strainer types, and successfully qualified them to various debris loads under the latest approved NRC guidance.
Dry Cask Storage
Working with NRC, Alden has written two NUREG/CR documents (NUREG/CR-7274 and NUREG/CR-7260) describing how CFD should be used to demonstrate compliance with dry cask storage temperature limits. The process follows the Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification (VVUQ) methods laid out in ASME V&V 20-2009, and has demonstrated excellent agreement with experimental data collected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
