Verdantas is thrilled to announce that one of our projects was selected as the recipient of the prestigious 2023 Governor’s Conservation Award for Urban Design, presented by the Delaware Association of Conservation Districts. We are incredibly proud to be recognized for our outstanding efforts in advancing sustainable development and environmental conservation within our community.

The award-winning project that caught the attention of the selection committee was our innovative design of an R Tank underground detention system in conjunction with permeable asphalt.  Due to many constraints on the site (high groundwater, elevations of adjacent storm drain, and a small site), this solution allowed for an infill commercial property to be developed.  The R Tank underground detention system, in combination with permeable asphalt, represents a solution that effectively manages stormwater runoff and reduces the strain on the local infrastructure. By capturing and storing rainwater beneath the surface, the system allows for controlled release, preventing flooding, and alleviating the burden on drainage networks.

"Verdantas understands the importance of sustainable urban development and how it contributes to a healthier and more resilient environment," said James Taylor Jr., Senior Project Manager. "Our project not only addresses the immediate challenges associated with stormwater management but also promotes the long-term sustainability of our communities. We are immensely grateful for this recognition from the Delaware Association of Conservation Districts. It serves as a testament to our team's unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship and our tireless efforts to make a positive impact in the communities we serve."

Verdantas will continue to lead the way in sustainable development practices, inspiring others to embrace innovative solutions that balance growth with environmental responsibility. Together, we can create a future where conservation and progress go hand in hand.
