The Brownfield Coalition of the Northeast (BCONE) is gearing up for its 2023 Northeast Sustainable Communities Workshop. Public, private, and regulatory stakeholders in the region will be able to hear from industry professionals as they share their brownfield remediation, resilience, and sustainable redevelopment expertise. The event, scheduled for September 19-20 in Worcester, Massachusetts, will feature key Verdantas experts and other leaders in the industry.

Topics and panels discussions will cover best practices and ideas to promote resilience and sustainable brownfield redevelopment.

Verdantas’ Environmental Assessment & Remediation Practice Lead, Zack Smith, LEP will chair a panel discussion entitled The Ever-Evolving Challenge of PFAS: Technical Insights for the Brownfield Developer. Nikki Delude Roy, P.G. will participate on the panel alongside Patrick McKeown of ECT2, a leading remedial expert who is actively implementing PFAS remediation at numerous sites across the country.

In addition, Verdantas’ Data Acquisition Manager, Mike Boisvert will also lead a panel discussion entitled Better Stakeholder Engagement: How Technology Can Improve Stakeholder Engagement for Successful Brownfield Redevelopment. This panel will feature Verdantas’ GIS Specialist, Alex Fazzino who will present alongside Jennie Byron, a senior engineer from Esri and one of Verdantas’ brownfields clients, Shannon Brawley, from What Cheer Flower Farm in Rhode Island.

"We are excited to be participating in these valuable Brownfields discussions," says Zack Smith. "Bringing together stakeholders with various backgrounds, technical experience, and interests leads to greater project success for everyone. Even more exciting is that the Sustainable Communities Workshop gives us an opportunity to strengthen our connections with others in our industry, including several cutting-edge industry partners who are part of our panel discussions."

Mike Boisvert adds, "Stakeholder engagement can make or break a successful Brownfield redevelopment project. That's why Verdantas is focused on bringing our visualization experience and collaborating with our partners to improve the decision-making process, especially for brownfields projects."
