Zack Smith joins EPOC's Board of Directors

DUBLIN, Ohio— Verdantas Environmental Assessment and Remediation (EAR) Practice Leader Zack Smith has been selected to join the Board of Directors at the Environmental Professionals Organization of Connecticut (EPOC).

EPOC, formed in 1996, is a non-profit organization that represents the interests of Connecticut’s Licensed Environmental Professionals (LEPs) by providing information, training and updates regarding the LEP program in Connecticut.

EPOC activities include:

  • Providing members with courses in preparation for the LEP examination and continuing education credits
  • Maintaining liaisons with the State Board of Examiners and the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) to keep apprised of their activities, including development and implementation of regulations regarding licensing.
  • Providing training and support to those on-track to becoming Licensed Environmental Professionals (LEPs) to ensure that the LEP program maintains an active roster of qualified professionals.
  • Assisting in revising/updating guidance documents as practice experience warrants
  • Serving as a clearinghouse for tools and information useful to LEPs, such as guidance documents, standards, technical protocols, research articles, etc.
  • Keeping members apprised of any changes or clarifications to LEPs' responsibilities.

Zack is committed to the environmental consulting profession and has participated in several work groups and initiatives over the years. In addition to EPOC, Zack currently also supports work groups related to emerging contaminants and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) through the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) and the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). Zack has been an active member of EPOC through most of his professional career. Zack will serve in the Director role for a two-year term.
