Deirdre Smith, P.E., LEED AP BD+C is the Mid-Atlantic Area Manager and Vice President at Verdantas. With 34 years of experience in civil, water resources and geotechnical engineering, Deirdre also serves as a Senior Project Manager and Senior Consultant on a variety of multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring integration of Verdantas’ technical staff and services and successful outcomes for her clients. Her diverse project experience has included private land development projects; regional and local flood studies; water resource protection, infiltration, and recharge assessments; geotechnical subsurface evaluations; slope stability analysis for dikes, embankments, and landfills; installation, monitoring, and data interpretation for geotechnical instrumentation; and environmental assessment and remediation projects.
Deirdre holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware, as a well as a Master of Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical and Foundation Engineering from the University of Delaware.
Deirdre currently serves as the 2nd Vice President of the Committee of 100 where she also Chairs the Environment & Energy Committee, and formerly served on the Executive Committee of the Water Resource Association of the Delaware River Basin; Chaired the Delaware Valley Green Building Councils’ Delaware Branch Steering Committee and Co-Chaired Delaware’s ACE Mentor Program.
Deirdre also serves on the Board of Family Promise of Northern New Castle County, an organization committed to transforming the lives of families experiencing homelessness in our community. She and her husband have three grown children and reside in Delaware.
