River and Stream Assessment and Modeling
Verdantas offers a comprehensive, science-based understanding of waterways, forming the foundation for sustainable river management and restoration. We combine cutting-edge field data collection with advanced eco-engineering modeling to evaluate current conditions and design future solutions.
River and Stream Assessments
Our investigations begin at the watershed scale, examining physical, biological, and hydrological conditions. Using remote sensing and precision field equipment, Verdantas maps river channels and floodplains, studies water levels and flow and characterizes sediment transport.
From multi-beam bathymetric surveying to ground-based and green LiDAR, we employ state-of-the-art technology to capture channel form and underwater topography. Our hydraulic engineers and fluvial geomorphologists characterize physical processes and sediment dynamics.
Habitat quality is evaluated through benthic macroinvertebrate sampling, fish monitoring and water quality monitoring. We also analyze watershed connectivity and land use impacts. By integrating geomorphic surveys, habitat assessments, water quality and hydrologic monitoring, we establish a holistic baseline for restoration and management.
Eco-Engineering Studies & Modeling
Verdantas applies modeling to simulate current conditions, evaluate future scenarios, and design solutions. We use computational tools to model water flow, sediment dynamics, and ecosystem responses.
Our capabilities include 1D, 2D, and 3D hydraulic and hydrodynamic modeling, sediment transport simulations, and habitat suitability modeling. These tools help evaluate how flow depth, velocity, inundation duration, and flow connectivity affect species and their habitat distributions under different scenarios.
Verdantas has developed a trailblazing tool called EcoFIP (Ecological Floodplain Inundation Potential), a unique approach for rapidly identifying and evaluating multi-benefit floodplain restoration opportunities at large physical and temporal scales. EcoFIP helps prioritize and design actions like levee setbacks to reconnect floodplains and improve habitat. Our integrated approach empowers clients to address habitat loss, flooding, erosion and other water resource challenges with confidence and speed.
