Data Centers
Site development, environmental permitting, and power infrastructure services that support data center projects from due diligence through operation.
Already in the Communities Where Data Centers Are Being Built
Data center development is reshaping energy markets, real estate, and communities across the country. Siting, zoning, permitting, power and water availability, and community support are where data center projects stall or advance. Verdantas operates from more than 100 offices nationwide, many in the smaller communities and rural counties where campuses are increasingly sited. With a centralized Data Center delivery team supported by our network of teams in these communities across the nation, we bring established agency relationships, knowledge of local conditions vital for development, and decades of jurisdictional experience that allow faster land acquisition, permitting and site development.
That local depth also accelerates early due diligence. We identify environmental constraints, water availability, utility gaps, and regulatory risks before significant capital is committed, and keep multidisciplinary teams engaged from the start so that site selection, permitting, and infrastructure planning move in parallel rather than in sequence.
Helping investors, owners, developers navigate the land, power, water, and community challenges
Today’s data center developments face intense competition for sourcing viable sites, long power interconnection queues, and growing public scrutiny. Success requires a partner who understands the full picture, balancing engineering and permitting requirements with local conditions and nuance.Verdantas works as an extension of the developer's team, integrating site development, environmental permitting, and power and water infrastructure capabilities together in one coorindated approach. We act on the owner's behalf across the full project lifecycle, connecting the disciplines and relationships needed to move a project from site selection to operation.
Built on Environmental, Water and Energy Expertise
Verdantas focuses on environmental, water and energy transition end-markets with nearly three-quarters of its business in these spaces, exactly the three critical area of needs for data center development.
Modern data centers demand expertise across environmental permitting, water infrastructure, and energy delivery, bringing Verdantas’ core capabilities directly into focus Our team designs and delivers the supporting infrastructure that brings power and water to the campus, including substation architecture, generation tie lines, distribution connections, water intake and conveyance when needed and natural gas extensions. For the Cumulus Data campus in Pennsylvania, we led planning and engineering for a 1,200-acre zero-carbon development powered by behind-the-meter nuclear energy, a first-of-its-kind project that Talen Energy sold to Amazon Web Services for $650 million.
Our roots in environmental remediation and brownfield redevelopment give developers a path to repurpose previously impacted industrial land into campus-ready sites with sustainability credentials that satisfy communities and investors alike. And as nuclear power emerges as a long-term generation solution for data centers, we're actively supporting small modular reactor permitting through our Flow Labs' fluid modeling capabilities, positioning our clients at the front of what comes next.
